Program Summary

Peace Camp Palu is a program organized for the youth of Palu with diverse religious backgrounds to participate in peace education training using the module of the 12 Basic Values of Peace.

Program Objectives

The Peace Camp Palu program aims to instill peace values as a key to mutual understanding and appreciation of diversity.

Program Background

The conflict events in Central Sulawesi have impacted the city of Palu, where the majority of the population is Muslim and lives alongside Christian residents. These events have led to incidents where religious symbols became outlets for violence, driven by certain parties aiming to escalate conflict zones into Palu, the provincial capital.

Furthermore, these events have also resulted in prejudice against Muslim and Christian communities. Hence, peace and movement in Palu have become significant issues.

Based on these events, PeaceGeneration Indonesia organized the Peace Camp Palu program.

Program Implementation

The Peace Camp was held in 2019 in Palu, with participants from Tadulako University and active youth communities involved in social change activities in Palu. Despite fasting during Ramadan, participants were enthusiastic, spirited, and cooperative. Even the local government took the time to visit and deliver speeches.

After the peace education training, participants spread peace to children and other communities through various activities such as teaching the 12 Basic Values of Peace in juvenile correctional facilities and schools, cleaning mosques and other places of worship, organizing Peace Day at the campus, distributing aid packages, and networking with stakeholders.
