Program Summary
Peace Camp is a program organized as a platform for the youth in Makassar to learn the 12 Basic Peace Values and fulfill the mission of becoming Agents of Peace (AoP). The program consists of three series: Peace Camp for university students, Training Peace for Educators from various schools, and Peace Camp for high school students.
Program Objectives
The objective is to disseminate the values of inclusiveness, tolerance, and respect for diversity.
Program Background
In 2021, places of worship once again became the target of a bomb explosion incident in Indonesia. The explosion occurred in front of the Makassar Cathedral Church door after the Palm Sunday service, causing injuries to several churchgoers and damage to vehicles around the location.
Applying the values of peace by becoming an AoP (Agent of Peace) is necessary to be at the forefront of fostering religious tolerance, inclusiveness, and respecting and honoring diversity.
Therefore, Peace Camp was organized in response to the bombing incident at Makassar Cathedral Church to instill peaceful values within oneself and then spread them to others.
Program Details
Peace Camp is part of peace education, where participants undergo training to learn the 12 Basic Peace Values. They are then assigned the mission of becoming Agents of Peace, which involves writing a Story of Change (SoC), creating social media content, and spreading peace values to 30 individuals online and offline.
Program Implementation
Peace Camp held in Makassar from 2021 to 2022. The program focused on a 3-day training on the 12 Basic Peace Values to proactively spread peace values, particularly to other young generations in Makassar.
Participants in this program came from various faiths, but Muslims and Christians became the majority.
