PeaceGen Collaboration Develops Educational Board Game to Improve the Mental Health of Students at the Fahmina Islamic Boarding School
PeaceGen.Id - Mental health is one of the key foundations for creating a safe learning environment that supports students’ development, including in Islamic boarding schools. Drawing on 19 years of experience in developing peace education, PeaceGeneration Indonesia (PeaceGen) believes that mental health must be strengthened through a contextual approach.
It is this commitment that has driven PeaceGen to collaborate with Pesantren Luhur Manhajiy Fahmina on the MERAWAT Pesantren Program (Mental Health, Equity, and Relational Wellbeing Transformation in Pesantren) to strengthen students’ mental health and foster healthy relationships within the pesantren community.
As an organization with nearly 19 years of experience in peace education through creative media, PeaceGen was entrusted with developing game-based learning materials tailored to the needs of the MERAWAT Pesantren program. This collaboration resulted in two educational board games: Jaga Jiwa and Jaga Martabat.
Jaga Jiwa is designed to help students recognize their emotions, build mental resilience, and strengthen peer support. Meanwhile, Jaga Martabat was developed as an educational tool on the prevention of sexual violence, healthy relationships, and the importance of creating a safe and mutually respectful environment within the pesantren. Both board games were specifically designed to align with the objectives of the MERAWAT Pesantren Program and the context of students’ lives.
During the training, Annisa Fitria, Senior Innovation & Program Officer at the PeaceGeneration Indonesia Foundation, represented PeaceGen as a facilitator who guided the students through game-based learning sessions. Through an interactive and reflective approach, participants not only understood the material but also experienced a learning process that fostered empathy, healthy communication, and a culture of collective care.
This collaboration demonstrates how PeaceGen not only facilitates learning but also develops contextual educational materials tailored to the needs of its partners. Through a creative and participatory approach, PeaceGen continues to support various educational institutions in delivering learning experiences that are relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
Through this collaboration, PeaceGen hopes that a creative, game-based learning approach can serve as an effective alternative for strengthening Islamic boarding schools’ capacity to support students’ mental health and foster healthy, mutually respectful relationships. Moving forward, PeaceGen is committed to continuing to collaborate with various educational institutions to develop contextual learning innovations, so that more and more learning spaces in Indonesia become safer, more inclusive, and supportive of the well-being of all their members.
