West Java Education Agency Supports Creative Teacher Training for SOPs on Preventing School Violence

Not Stiff Anymore: West Java Education Agency Supports Creative Teacher Training for SOPs on Preventing School Violence Bandung, August 19, 2025 – In a massive effort to make schools safe spaces, teachers are at the forefront of preventing violence. The complex issue of violence and bullying demands that every school, especially at the high school and vocational school levels, have an effective strategy. Fauzan Nur Kholis, a representative from the Division of Teachers and Education Personnel (GTK) of the West Java Education Agency, shared his testimony about how a training program can change the old, rigid paradigm.

As an institution that oversees thousands of teachers and education personnel in West Java, the Education Agency has a great responsibility to ensure every educator has adequate capacity, particularly in preventing and handling school violence, including bullying. According to Fauzan, the success of the Violence Prevention and Handling Teams (TPPK) in each educational unit depends heavily on the competence of the teachers within them.

"The GTK Division does focus on issues related to teachers. In the context of the TPPK, one of the main actors is the teacher," said Fauzan. "Therefore, we welcome and actively participate in training for teachers on handling violence prevention and handling."

Moving Away from Stiff Methods: A Turning Point in Teacher Training

So far, the main challenge in this type of training has been how to translate regulations into concrete actions. Teachers are expected to be able to create and implement clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for violence prevention, but often the training process itself doesn't adequately equip them with an applicable and engaging way to do so.

This is where Fauzan saw a fundamental difference in the TPPK training held by PeaceGeneration. "What's interesting is that this activity is packaged so that teachers carry out the handling and prevention in ways that are engaging and contextual," he explained.

The main differentiator, according to Fauzan, is the use of game-based learning. "One thing that might be the differentiator is that what we've done for these three days is wrapped in games," he said. This approach succeeded in breaking the boredom that often accompanies formal training. "Even we as adults enjoy these methods. Because it's interesting, the motor skills are also active, and it's not boring," Fauzan added.

Dual Impact: Effective for Teachers, Highly Relevant for High School and Vocational School Students

The advantage of this method doesn't stop at its effectiveness for the training participants. Fauzan highlighted its dual impact: what teachers learn through games is a model they can directly apply to students in school.

"Especially when this is applied in schools. Children, especially high school and vocational students, are in a sociological stage where they like to play," he analyzed.

Thus, efforts to prevent school violence, including bullying, are no longer delivered through rigid lectures or passive posters. Instead, important messages within the SOP can be internalized through enjoyable activities. Through simulations, concepts in the violence handling SOP are no longer just text on paper, but become strategies that can be felt and practiced directly by teachers and students.

"So, the handling and prevention of violence in educational units are no longer done in stiff ways, but are based on games and other interesting things," Fauzan emphasized.

West Java Education Agency's Commitment: From Training to Real Implementation

Seeing the success of this approach, the West Java Education Agency, through the GTK Division, is committed to ensuring that the knowledge and skills gained do not stop in the training room. Fauzan affirmed that his department will take strategic steps to guarantee every teacher in West Java can effectively implement the SOPs and violence prevention strategies.

"We from the GTK Division of the West Java Provincial Education Agency will certainly continue to participate and collaborate with many parties," he said. "Then, we will also actively supervise and provide support for the TPPK teams at schools."

This support from the West Java Education Agency is a strong signal of the effectiveness of creative learning methods in a crucial issue like violence prevention. For teachers, high school and vocational school principals, and other educational institutions who are inspired and want to know more about the game-based learning approach from PeaceGeneration Indonesia, the door for collaboration and information is always open.
