About the Project
Ashoka partnered with PeaceGen to assist educators in creating a more progressive education system, becoming agents of change in the 21st century, and fostering a mindset of innovation through the Gaharu and Guru Abad 21 programs.
Goal
This collaboration aims to support educators in facing challenges in the education world by cultivating empathy, addressing the issues they encounter, and designing creative solutions using the 5R approach: Rasa, Raih, Rancang, Rencana, and Rawat.
Background of the Collaboration
Ashoka is a pioneer in social entrepreneurship, having supported over 4,000 Ashoka Fellows across 93 countries, including 205 Fellows in Indonesia. These Fellows are visionary leaders focused on social system change through innovative and sustainable approaches. In its mission to support social change, Ashoka found that educators in Indonesia had limited space to share their experiences and challenges in their profession.
To address this issue, Ashoka initiated the Gaharu and Guru Abad 21 programs as a platform for discussion and solutions for teachers. PeaceGen was trusted as a partner to implement these programs due to its experience in conducting the Guru Abad 21 program, which closely aligns with Gaharu.
Method and Approach
In this program, PeaceGen played a key role in ensuring the smooth execution of training by providing various forms of support, including:

Providing facilitators for three participant groups from Konferensi Waligereja Indonesia (KWI), Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), and Muhammadiyah.

Creating training documentation to ensure the sustainability of the program.

Designing gamification in training to make the material more accessible.

Facilitating discussion sessions in breakout rooms.

Assisting participants in creating action plans to implement the solutions discussed.

Providing speakers and moderators for various sessions.

Managing the technical aspects of the training, including event operator support.
Impact and Results
The implementation of this program had a positive impact on the educators involved. Participants were given the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges, while also designing concrete steps to address issues in education. With an applicable approach, they not only understood the concept of change but also gained the tools to implement it in their own environments.
